Process – The European Exchange Academy in Gerswalde, Germany

In 2017, from 12th of Augustus to the 12th of September I participated as a student to develop my way of working and to build a valuable international network. The EEA is the creative child of Harry Heyink, professor at the Gerrit-Rietveld academy. It is a summer residency that takes place in different places in different countries, this year in Gerswalde, Germany. Each summer around forty ambitious young art students from art academies from all around the world to come live and work together in an intensive atmosphere, some would even call it an art boot-camp. We got up at 7 a.m or earlier, had breakfast together, and after that we would have a morning circle to talk about anything. After the morning circle we were free to do whatever we wanted to (walking, painting, drawing, swimming, talking, sleeping, editing, taking photos or videos).

The evenings were filled with guest lectures and discussions, bonfires and of course artistic work and equally artistic partying. the emphasize of the program is to challenge students to get out of their comfort zone, to be critical and generous towards each other. Naivety and energy is encouraged: it is very much a process-loaded space where often magic tends to happen.
